A Vote16 Culver City event graphic identified Robert Frost Auditorium for a proposed town hall with LaJuan Allen, Laura Wray-Lake, Bryan “Bubba” Fish and a Culver City High School Vote16 student leader. CCUSD correspondence later documented the District's review and denial of the facility request.
Aug. 23
CCUSD was asked for booking records.
Correspondence asked CCUSD for paperwork showing booking details for the advertised Frost event, stated that it appeared political and asked how District policy applied. A follow-up later that day sent the current policy.
Aug. 24
A CPRA request sought rental records and communications.
The request sought renter identity, classification, agreement and payment records and was expanded to communications with the sponsoring entity, District staff, Board members, listed speakers or others regarding the event request.
Aug. 25
Superintendent Jiménez denied the Frost request.
Jiménez later stated that the administrator overseeing Frost Auditorium requests brought him a request on August 25. He said he denied it under Board Policy 1160 because the forum was not available to all sides of the issue on an equitable basis, and that the group was notified that day.
Aug. 28
CCUSD reported no disclosable responsive records.
CCUSD's response to the August 24 request stated that, subject to the CPRA standards and exemptions described in its response, the District did not possess disclosable records responsive to the request.
Unresolved documentary question: the available records do not document the steps by which the proposed Frost event reached public promotion before the August 25 facility request described by Jiménez. They do not establish whether any earlier arrangements occurred through written communications, oral communications, a facility-reservation system, or another process.
